It similarly examines and classifies external factors (broader socio-economic and environmental
changes, for example, or the behaviour of opponents, competitors, markets,
neighbouring regions, etc.) and presents them in terms of Opportunities and
Threats. This is then used to explore possible strategies – developing and
building on strengths and overcoming or accommodating weaknesses,
providing insight as to the resources and capabilities required to deal with
changing environments and is a very widely used tool for strategy formulation
and decision-making.
